How often do you pick up the newspaper or listen to the news and hear about a child who has lost his or her life to an accidental drowning? And how often are the events leading to the accident similar? The parent or parents were present but became preoccupied for several minutes only to discover the child missing. By the time the child is found, unfortunately it is too late. I don’t know about you, but my heart breaks whenever I hear about one of these scenarios. My mind wanders to my young grandson and I envision our family loosing him suddenly and I cannot even envision the pain.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way in many situations. There will always be accidents- I not fool enough to believe every accident can be remedied. But for those pool owners, there is a real means of prevention in the way of a pool alarm. These alarms are cost efficient and when you look at the price compared to the loss that could be imposed, there is no price too high that compares to the loss of a child. According to the CDC, in 2007

    – Children in the age group 1 year to 4 years old had the highest rate of drowning accidents.
– Of children in the age group 1 year to 4 years old, 30% of accidental deaths for the age group were because of drowning.
– Most of the drowning of children in the age 1 to age 4 age group happened in residential pools.
– Most of the children listed above were in the care of one or both parents at the time of the drowning accident.

Moreover, again most of the children listed above were only out of sight for approximately 5 minutes. Looking at these statistics, if you are a pool owner and have small children in the family or grandchildren, is there any question that you need to have a pool alarm for your family’s protection?

The Pool Protector Pool Alarm automatically alarms whenever anything falls into the pool be it a child, pet, etc. The remote receiver can be mounted in your home up to 200 feet from the main unit, so you can be in other parts of the home and still be alerted to the danger about to occur. The alarm is loud and pulsating to catch you attention and alert you to go to the pool immediately. Simple to use and simple to install-there is no question that any pool owner should have an alarm to protect against the accidents that could occur as outlined above.

No one understands better than parents who have lost a child, what pain it causes and how it changes their life. Most drownings occur when a pool is unattended and a child wanders off. With a pool alarm, an alarm system signals the pool owner that someone or something has entered the unattended pool, offering time to get to the pool and possibly save a child’s life before the inevitable happens.

This summer enjoy your pool and water fun, but use precautions and install a pool alarm so that when summer is over, you can look over the fun and have no regrets or heartbreak. Only fun and family and isn’t that what life is all about.

In this age we are living in, where we are facing worldwide failures of economy and most countries being bailed out, it is not surprising if you have financial difficulties in your marriage. You are sure to hit financial tidal waves; especially the newly weds – being hit the hardest, as this is a phenomenon that nobody can avoid.

The causes and burdens of financial issues in a marriage

Research has proven that financial issues are the primary reason for 90 percent of divorce cases in the world today. It’s not a matter of what you earn that leads to difficulties but your spending habits, where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. This usually is more vivid in relationships where there is a total lack of communication.

There are various causes for financial problems in a marriage. Situations such as uncertainty, unemployment, and financial hardship will surely hurt your marriage if the two of you avoid talking with one another or if either of you prefer hiding your head in the sand instead of dealing with the issues at hand.

Practical solutions to avoid financial issues in a marriage

There are various principles that couples can adhere to, so they can avoid money problems. Below are a few suggestions:

First of all, being honest with each other is very important.. You need to share your concerns over money and deal with them in a respectful way. As a result of them finding common grounds to deal with their financial issues, couples with differing financial habits and attitudes have been able to make it work and so can you.

Take some time off to think about your financial expectations and goals. Try to come up with solutions about your family’s attitude towards spending and their financial habits and together set realistic expectations and goals that are achievable. Do not spend what you do not have, learn to differentiate between what you want and actually need, credit cards and unnecessary loans will only sink you further. If you want something, save up until you can actually get them. You will have to learn how to prioritize your goals, e.g. what to spend on children, pets, home, bills, savings, entertainment etc. Develop and live within a budget.

Money should not be a cause for divorce, so avoid having a fight over it at all costs. If you spend too much time fighting over money instead of nurturing your home, it will surely bring financial stress in your marriage. In turn this is what leads to couples deciding that they would be better on their own, without realizing that they also take the burdens of their debts with them when they do get divorce and it also bring with it more financial burdens, which you could have avoided, if you had only sort out your financial problems instead of running away from them. Very often, people who are under stress often fail to notice and acknowledge the good in their spouses and children. Instead of showing gratitude, they try their best to undermine them and as a result mutual trust and obligations in a healthy family are lost completely, creating the psychological equivalent of a credit crunch and as a last resort, divorce.

Today, there are various institutions where people with deep financial difficulties can get help and advice. If your problems are so severe that you feel that you are not able to get out of them on your own, then try to get the financial help if needed. It does not mean that you are sharing your marriage problems with the outside world, but it is a chance for both of you to get to talk about it with professionals and together work towards a common solution. Believe me, it does work.

Following these tips will bring a financial bond into your marriage and a sense of empowerment as you make progress in accomplishing your financial goals together. No one likes to talk about money, but very often, it is necessary. By starting early in the marriage, you can create a healthy habit so money talk will become a natural part of your relationship. Remember, you are a team, keep the conversations flowing and together, you will be able to work things out.

One of the biggest expenses that someone sees in their budget is the grocery bill. Many families though have learned how to shop frugally and have reaped the rewards for their efforts. It may take a bit more time, but in the end the results can be huge savings on grocery bills.

Make A List And Check It Twice

The first thing you should do, even before getting to the grocery store, is to make a list. If making a list could save you $5 a week, imagine the savings you would see over a one year period. It’s important to make a list and stick to it. Winging it is not a good idea as you’ll end up spending more than you mean to.

Lists of all kinds help people to be productive and save time. When in the grocery store it will help you to remain focused on exactly what you need, so that you don’t end up buying a lot of impulse items. Make the list when you have at least 1/2 hour of time during the week and only deviate from the list if there are specials that could mean extra savings.

Don’t Shop With Children

Before you go shopping find someone to look after the kids. Trade with a neighbor so that it doesn’t cost you anything. Leaving home without the kids can also lead to huge savings as they will not be asking for every favorite item they see. Also there is nothing worse than trying to shop with a child that has become impatient or tired. It can be very distracting and you can end up not taking the needed time to check different prices on different items.

Customer Loyalty Programs

Today, many stores have what is known as “Customer Loyalty Programs.” If you shop at the same store all the time, make sure you check to see if your supermarket is one of them. These are designed to get repeat business and the savings can range from “members only” prices, special hours for members and double coupon days. Grocery store spending can even be linked to a college savings account. Look at the website UPromise to see exactly what they offer.

Coupons

If you are not using coupons to their full potential then you are throwing money away. Clipping coupons can result in large savings, especially on double coupon days. Keep them organized in a small box and match them up with in-store savings for even more benefits. Some people have reduced their grocery bills by as much as 40% simply by using coupons. Be sure to check out the website “The Grocery Game” for even more savings and ideas.

Don’t Shop When You Are Hungry

One of the biggest mistakes people make is shopping when they are hungry. It’s a proven fact that you are more likely to pick up things you don’t need because you are hungry. Sweets are a big temptation and they are some of the most overpriced items in the store.

Where Are The Best Deals

Many companies pay a premium to have their products placed at eye level. People are more likely to grab it than they are to look higher up or lower when often the best bargains can be found. These alternative products can lead to big savings over a one year period and all you need to do is to make sure you check all the shelves and not just the ones at eye level.

Big Brand Names Mean More Money

Those big brand names often are not the best buy or the best tasting product. Through advertising they convince people they are the best but often generic is just as good if not better. Using your coupons with a different brand can help you to save and discover products you’ve never tried before.

Buy Generic Products

Many shoppers do not realize that those generic products they are not buying are often made by the same company that sells the name brand product. Their ingredients are almost identical and only the outside is different. I first realized this when I bought coffee at Costco. The Kirkland name coffee is made by Starbucks. I realized very large savings by using the store brand and yet still get the same flavor I love. Generic products are everywhere now, from food to detergents. Be sure to check them out the next time you are at the store.

It seems strange now that special holidays are now celebrated in the way they are. 50 years ago Christmas and birthdays were the only times when the parcel trade increased for a special occasion, but now there are several occasion’s in the year when the parcel trade benefits from a build up of parcel presents.

Easter eggs have always been around and originally they were expensive but the ever present supermarket and mass production has taken the supply to a new level. High class Eater eggs cost only a few pounds and are always well received by the children in the family.

Thus the Easter egg has become a very well received parcel to send and receive. The Easter egg has the advantage that they are very light to send and so whilst they present quite a nice sized present that can be sent at an affordable rate. The Easter egg was a symbol of Easter to mark the resurrection or the re birth and is celebrated around the Christian world and whilst the type and shape may change the idea is the same. While Christianity is now practiced less than it was it has not stopped the rest of the population from joining in much in the same way as they do at Christmas.

The number of eggs transported is in the multi millions and whilst many are transported by the family many are sent by parcel post. Many Internet sellers rely on the strong present trade at this time of year where the parcels can be sent directly from the company to the intended receiver.

Easter Eggs are not the only present, and most major Internet companies and stores send a complete variety of parcels and packages solely dedicated to the Easter holiday.

The sending of flowers by parcel post is quite a dedicated trade that becomes prominent at Easter. In this trade the flowers can often be sent from the Channel Islands directly to the intended recipient, the parcels have to be packaged carefully in the right sort of packaging which allows the flowers space and retains some water content to keep them alive in transport and they are usually sent air freight over night for next day delivery.

There is also a complete range of chocolates and other presents sent by parcel post which are solely dedicated to Easter. Many of the more recent ones can be slightly repackaged and sent later for another occasion but sent with a card it can brighten up Spring.

Have you experienced covering your own books with fancy covers when you were still young?

Many people treasure that experience they had when they were younger. Indeed, covering your own books is fun. You can actually pick out the prints that you like and the color as well. Moreover, you can also choose the design and even add personal touches to it. Covering your books your self is not only a fun activity but is very self fulfilling as well. After all, what could possibly beat the effort and the personal touch that covering your own books offers?

However, as one grows more mature, he cannot simply use his favorite cartoon character for his book cover. Correspondingly, as he grows professionally, he will discover more book covers that are more appropriate.
One of these is custom leather.

Custom leather is not really new as a book cover material. In fact, most of the books that you find in the libraries are actually covered with leather materials. However, it is pleasing to know that you can actually use custom leather to cover your own books. There are a lot of different types of leather that you can use as book covers.

Leather is a popular book cover material because it is durable. Unlike other materials, leather does not degrade with time; rather, the quality of leather becomes better with time. Moreover, leather is flexible. It can be used to cover different shapes and sizes since it can be easily bended and it easily adopts to any form.
Furthermore, you can actually decorate your leather item. In fact, leather itself can even be the decoration. More importantly, various types of leather can be used for bookbinding.

The most commonly used material in craft and booking are goatskin and calf. Both of these material are durable covering material when properly tanned and they don’t cost as much as the other leathers.

Another popular leather is Morocco leather. Although this is still made from goatskin, the method and the process employed in tanning this animal hide is particularly the Morocco style. However, this may not be easily available nowadays.

Calf has also been used as a bookbinding material for many years because it is smooth, and lends well to gold leaf decoration. In addition, it is also flat and featureless which attributes to its formability and flexibility.

On the other hand, if you are looking for something that has been proven and tested as a bookbinding material for more than 500 years, sheepskin is the perfect leather. Sadly, sheepskin is maligned as being inferior to all other leathers today. This leather is actually reasonably durable if properly prepared and tanned. Moreover, it is lightweight and is suitable for general quality case work. In fact, this can even be treated like a book cloth and does not require the sort of hidden structure that a book bound in full thickness would require.

With all these amazing leathers that you can use as book covers, you will definitely have fun covering all your books. Moreover, you can even have these customized to your personal specifications. What is important though is being able to choose the most appropriate one that would perfectly fit the project that you have in mind.

Using an everyday object such as a paper plate can provide you with several new and exciting crafts for your child care center.

1. Love Bug

Materials:
9-inch paper plate
6-inch paper plate
Glue
Colored markers or paint
Construction paper
Pipe cleaner

Instructions:
Paint or color the bottom of each plate red. Glue the 9-inch plate and the 6-inch plate together so that the two form a “figure eight.” The 6-inch plate will be the head of the love bug and the 9-inch plate will be the body. Cut one sheet of black construction paper into six long strips. These strips will be the arms and legs of the bug. Glue three arms and legs underneath each side of the body. Take two black pipe cleaners and glue them on the top of the head. These pipe cleaners will be the love bug’s antennae. Decorate the body by drawing or cutting out hearts or circles from black construction paper. Affix these to the body of the love bug with glue.

2.Valentine’s Mailbox

Materials:
9-inch paper plates
Colored markers or paint
Glue
Red ribbon

Instructions:
Take two 9-inch plates and set one aside. Cut one plate into two equal halves. Discard one half, or set it aside for another child to use. Paint one whole plate and the half plate on both sides with red or pink paint. Once the paint is dry, glue the fronts of the two plates together to form a pocket. Punch a hole on top of the whole plate and tie some ribbon through the hole. This pouch forms a “mailbox” for your children to use for receiving Valentine’s cards.

This article explores several ways to save money by using the Internet when shopping for craft supplies, materials and tools.

The first place to look for bargains is eBay. Depending on your craft, you can either search by keywords like “quilt supplies” or browse through the eBay categories until you find the one that matches your needs. Personally, I would try both searches when seeking the best deals. The reason to search both ways is that not every eBay seller knows to include the keywords you use in their listings, while they may at least place the item in the correct category.

eBay also has a category called “wholesale lots.” Check out the listings there for buying supplies in bulk. Be sure you can either use all the items in these big lots or turn around and sell them yourself.

Craigslist is another place online to shop for crafting materials and tools. I have found many listings for equipment I needed there.

Locate online craft supplies by doing a Google search based on your hobby. For example, if you are a woodworker, search for “woodworking supplies.” This is a great way to identify niche craft supply sites. Sometimes searching for “craft supplies” alone isn’t specific enough. Try including words that describe your craft like “jewelry findings,” “stained glass supplies,” “weaving yarns,” or “doll making supplies” depending on what you make. Many suppliers offer mail order catalogs in addition to their online stores.

Sites that sell finished handmade goods also offer craft supplies. For instance, both Etsy and Artfire allow vendors to list and sell craft materials on their online store fronts.

Other places to shop for bargains online include the websites of major retail craft supply stores like Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Joann’s. Sometimes these sites will run “Internet only” bargains where you can really save some money if you buy online.

If you are a professional crafts person who sell crafts you make, consider bypassing retailers and middlemen by buying supplies direct from the manufacturers. Most manufacturers will require a state sales tax identification number to sell wholesale to you, but those are easy to get. The Thomas Register online lists most of the major manufacturers in the United States by product and by category. When shopping for yarns, I found several mills that would sell to me directly at very low prices. But I had to buy $500 worth at a time. Still, for a production crafts person, this can work out in the long run.

Though the Thomas Register lists U.S. manufacturers, you may be able to find even lower prices by going online to shop overseas. Alibaba is an Internet based clearing house for networking between buyers and sellers internationally. There are however drawbacks in buying craft supplies from other countries. You will probably have to buy in very large quantities. Handling imports may require you to have a trade agent who takes care of the shipment when it arrives. And you won’t have legal recourse if you aren’t happy with what you get.

In summary, start simple by searching online with words specific to your craft. Check out eBay, Etsy and Artfire for supplies listed by vendors there. When you move into production crafting, look towards buying craft supplies wholesale from manufacturers and maybe even from overseas. You can always turn your excess craft supplies into it’s own business.

Stop! Have you really thought about what type of health you’re in? Now, you might look like you’re healthy and everything is well, but if you haven’t really gotten yourself checked properly, you might be less healthy than you realized at first. This is because there a lot of “silent” diseases that can hide in our bodies, only manifesting when it’s nearly too late to stop their growth.

The most classic example is cancer, and it’s no laughing matter at all. Health and cancer are two topics that walk hand in hand — if you have poor health; you’re increasing your chances of developing certain cancers. On the other hand, if you don’t have cancer currently, it means that you can actually talk to your health care professional about getting proactive about protecting yourself from cancer.

The medical field is one that is always changing, which means that there is a lot of new information out there about cancer. It’s a good idea to stop and read about the newest developments, but it’s an even better idea to stop in with your doctor. After all, they’ve certainly gone through enough education to be able to tell you where you stand as far as your health goes.

Now, a lot of people skip this step. They know that they have to go and talk to their doctor, but the truth is that they don’t want to. They feel that the doctor will give them bad news that they can’t change, or the doctor will be upset with them if they haven’t lost enough weight. Remember that your doctor is one of the greatest advocates you have in the fight for better health, so why not use them? You’ll definitely be glad that you did!

Adopting a child is a very specific and important process that should handled by a duly licensed and reputable adoption agency rather than an adoption attorney. Adoption attorneys are a vital requirement in finalizing adoptions, even adoption agencies will refer you to a lawyer specializing in finalizing adoptions, but agencies are geared to the personal needs of both the person giving up the child and the one adopting the child. There are five keys that should be remembered when choosing whether to adopt through an agency or through an attorney.

   1. Attorneys specialize, so do agencies. There are hundreds of types of attorneys, even those who specialize as adoption attorneys handle different types of cases, some work with the person giving up a child, others work with the family wanting to adopt, and while others straddle a very fine line in working with the person giving up the child and the family. Adoption agencies however, are just that, licensed professional social workers whose goal is to get families who want to adopt together with parents who are placing a child and work through all the procedures and challenges to come to a viable solution. Agencies, because they are serving a wide variety of individuals have health care professional on staff who can work through the home study visits, the legal concerns (except the final Court adoption), and the psychological concerns. Adoption lawyers are not trained social workers who handle these types of challenges, their focus is on the legalities.
2. Costs. It is expensive to adopt, unless you adopt a special needs child from the state, where you might be eligible for some type of state assistance. But agencies as well as lawyers all have fees and costs that are not only set by law, but which might include extended services. Usually an agency can tell you exactly how much the adoption will cost and any potential fees that might be higher than normal. However, it is almost impossible for a lawyer to know exactly how much time he will need to spend or what his expenses will be. Some attorneys have a set fee to cover certain parts of the process such as taking the matter to court, but in most adoptions handled by attorneys, the actual costs may be far greater than any estimate. In either case, it is vital to get costs in writing from either an agency or an attorney.
3. Counseling. Adoption attorneys are not counselors. Unless you can find an attorney who has his certification as a licensed clinical social worker, the attorney is not geared to meeting any counseling needs. He may refer you to a counselor, but those fees will be in addition to his legal fees. Adoption attorneys are not there to hold your hand through the adoption process, they are there to ensure the adoption is done in accordance to the laws of the international community or the state. Agencies, however, understand the vital importance of compassion, counseling and understanding needs that both the parent placing the child and the family adopting the child has. A licensed professional agency has Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and counseling social workers (SW) on staff and the counseling fee is included with the adoption. This service makes the adoption agency a much more compassionate partner in the process than an attorney.
4. Loving care. Adoption agencies care. Quality agencies care, not only about the adoption legalization process, but about the individuals involved. They care that the one giving up the child for adoption is given those legal financial helps she is entitled to, to the counseling to help overcome the sadness, after birth depression, or the guilt in allowing the baby or child to be adopted. Adoption agencies care about the new mother and father to be, about the family as a whole, about the joy and potential overwhelming feelings that can occur when the adoption is finalized. They understand how to help, when to help and when to get a doctor involved in the process. Adoption attorneys are not geared for loving care, they are there to ensure the legal process of the adoption. They are there to make sure each party knows their rights and responsibilities and that the adoption documents are filed correctly and legally with the courts.
5. Ensuring your best interests. Sometimes the adoption lawyer is the one who contacts you about the adoption. Perhaps he knows you’ve wanted to adopt, perhaps she understands your needs and problems, and perhaps he’s a friend of the young woman who will be allowing her child to be adopted. Whatever, the reason, make sure that the adoption lawyer will look out for your best interests. Ask if she can have both parties’ best interests at heart. It is a fine line to serve as the attorney for both sides of an issue. There is client confidentially issues, and conflict of interest issues. You need to be sure that any adoption agency is also looking out for your best interests. Are they giving you the total picture, are they advising the family giving up the child for adoption to ask for more money for living expenses because the adoption agency knows you can pay more? Make sure you feel comfortable about how the adoption process will proceed with the adoption agency. This conflict could be solved by a very simple declaration of service document, or something more extensive. But in either case, make sure your adoption agency or adoption attorney has your best interests at heart.

Hopefully, the information contained above is a good step toward making an adoption agency decision. It is important to study and learn as much as you can about both lawyers and agencies, so please be careful.

In basic terms, adoption is when a child’s custody is given to a person or two people that aren’t the biological parents of that child.

Adoption permanently negates the biological parent or parents from any responsibility of that child for the rest of its life. The person or people that adopted the child gain full custodial rights and there isn’t really a difference between biological and adoptive parents in the eyes of the law.

There are many different types of adoption that include open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption. An open adoption is when custody is given to non-biological parents but the biological parents are entitled to visits, letters, or other forms of contact.

The arrangements vary and can be very lenient or restrictive depending on the situation. A semi-open adoption gives the biological parents a chance to meet the adoptive parents a few times.

This lets them have the option of choosing an open or closed adoption at a later date. A closed adoption only gives the adoptive parents medical records but not much else. Little is ever known about the biological parents. This can be due to governmental agencies placing the children due to an unhealthy environment or abuse.

Many issues can contribute to a child being put up for adoption. Some of the most common issues are when a mother knows she cannot take care of her child or when a child is removed from a parents home by a governmental agency involved in social services.

This is generally a good thing for the child as they are guaranteed to receive the treatment and care that they deserve but circumstances vary greatly with each individual case. Natural disasters or military actions can also put children in situations where adoption is an option.

Is Adoption Right For You?

How can you tell if adoption is right for you? This can be one of the hardest questions to answer. Adoption is one of the most difficult and life changing events you will ever face, because this child is going to be a part of your family for the rest of your life.

If you just feel like you need something to take care of, consider a puppy. A child is a huge responsibility and you will need to face all the good times and the bad times with no regrets.

An obvious benefit of adoption is that not only do you gain a new member of your family, you also give a family to a child without one. This is a great thing to do for another human being.

People choose to adopt for many reasons. Maybe a woman cannot or does not want to carry a baby for 9 months. Perhaps there is an infertility issue or maybe you just want to reach out and help make the world a little bit better. Whatever the reason you want to adopt a child, it is likely very personal and close to your heart.

Before even considering adoption you need to look inside yourself. Do you have the patience to handle a child? Children are not easy to tolerate all the time. If you’ve ever seen that parent in the store with the child running around misbehaving, you have a tiny glimpse into parenthood.

Children don’t always do what you want or grow up to be who you want them to be. They will grow up to be themselves instead.

Before adopting, make sure you have the parenting skills, finances, and above all, the time and love to give the child a wonderful environment where they can grow up and thrive in.
