Reward children, Applying Human Values and Virtues

The awards are well-educated parents when their children are not like those rewards are awarded in raffles, sweepstakes or contests. They are gifts, awards or merit payments made or as a consolation for having seen their hopes dashed.

Parents must have the same yardstick to measure the corrections, which measure the prizes and administer justice with the same intensity, when to punish and reward. They cannot forget that they have the inescapable responsibility of deciding when, how, where and how to reward and correct, but also to respond to the family and society on progress.

We all like to be rewarded, especially if it has been promised or if the prize is for an extraordinary effort, especially if done unselfishly. But the prizes given to children should not be to cover the guilt of a bad behavior, made by some parents for their children, or as payment of blackmail to make children behave, look better or to meet family obligations to them. Prizes must be used to increase self-esteem of children and as compensation or reward for the efforts they have made, having to always keep a balance between rewards and punishments.

Prizes must be commensurate with age, the ability to do what he has done, the proposed objectives, circumstances and difficulties or facilities, family situation and social environment in which they operate, etc. Every child is different and there is no general rule for the awards, but using the virtues and human values to reward, always obtain the best results in the education of their children.

They serve mainly to practice and promote the human values and virtues, fortitude and charity. Both virtues are not visible awards, but they produce the satisfaction of accomplishment, on parents and children.

The unjustified or excessive awards that some parents give their children, encourage them whims, selfishness, and the belief that all deserve, without having to make any effort, resulting in many times, the principle of emotional blackmail and decreased level of paternal authority.

It is very damaging to the credibility and authority of parents, promise and not fulfill. If you are promised a reward or punishment should be performed, both with the same promptness, quality and quantity, by maintaining a balance between the two situations.

Parents need to be firm and consistent with given words, actions and attitudes and commitments agreed, trying not to sleep without ever having arranged with the children the promises made both awards, as punishment.

For parents it is very difficult to balance his weakness or strength, with the number of children permitted with consent, which would create a concept of systematic application of rewards, for all the things to do. The valuation of the prizes in terms of obligations, requirements, responsibilities, rights, powers, is voluntary, and so on.

The education of children in the virtues and human values can and should be accompanied by reasonable award, to feed the desire to achieve the intended goals of good training, for this reason the parents should see the way to go to the priests, pastors, Rabbis and imams who are the people who best know how to do it.
